There are many paths and trails around the Wolfgangsee which range from a leisurely stroll along the lake to an invigorating walk. You can make up your own mind – maybe you could even climb up to the peak of a mountain where the whole region (a most superb walking area) seems to stretch out below at your feet.

Around the Sparber

A scenically splendid circular tour all around the Sparber, a 1, 502 m/ 5 918 ft high, double peaked rocky mountain to the south of the Wolfgangsee.

Duration

Mark Way No.Path No. 7 up to Langeralm, then path No. 19 to Schartenalm, the No. 877 to Madhäusl Inn and No. 9 and 7 to Almgasthaus Kleefeld

Start off at the Kleefeld Inn and walk past the game reserve in a southerly direction. During this stretch of the walk you have a beautiful view of the mountains of the Weissenbach valley, the Rettenkogel to the left and the Rinnkogel and Braunedel to the right.

After 3 km (1.8 m) - before the path descends to the Bergheimat Inn (which can be reached in a short time) - there is an alpine hut known as the Langeralm where you turn right onto the fairly level path no. 19 which you should follow through the meadows close to the Fellneralm. The path turns right and steadily ascends over meadows and, later on, through the forest up to the large expanse of the Schartenalm. You have now reached the highest point of the walk which is 980 m and the unobstructed view of the towering cliffs of the Sparber.

From here go along the fairly level mountain road until you reach a sharp curve.

A short distance later and path No. 877 branches off to the right and leads down to the Mahdhäusl Inn. From here keep to the right as it leads down to the Mahdhäusl Inn.and keep to the right until you reach the Holzerbauer ( there is a small chapel here) and path No. 9 which goes through the meadows to the point known as the “Urschlag”and the rolling Zäpfensteig path which will take you downhill with a beautiful view over the lake.

However, after the next house the path leads uphill again and after a more or less lengthy climb through the forest along path No. 7 you arrive back at the Kleefeld Inn.
